The tsunami disaster extremely affected us all. To share the grief of the victims and at the same time to arouse our senses we organized an "Interfaith Prayer Service for the Victims of Tsunami" on Sunday, February 27, 2005 at 1:30 pm.
We organized the prayer service in response to the recent earthquake and tsunamis that have killed thousands of people in Asia in collaboration with the First Presbyterian Church, Carlstadt, Saint Joseph’s Church, East Rutherford and Christ United Methodist Church, East Rutherford. Mr. Ahmet Kurucan, Rev. Donald Pitches, Rev. Francis Gunn and Rev. Esther Hee Ahn lead the prayers on behalf of the organizers respectively. We invited the members of different faiths to come together in order to pray for the victims of the disaster and build solidarity with them by showing their compassion and concern. It was really an opportunity to seek refuge in God for the believers through prayer, reflection, and meditation at a time that we felt helpless, yet wanted to be of help.

Mr. Ahmet Kurucan made a speech followed by a supplication and explained Islamic perspective on such natural disasters.
