NJ Feast of Sacrifice: Meat Distributions

Feast-of-Sacrifice-5Feast of Sacrifice is celebrated with big fests throughout New Jersey. Feast of Sacrifice is the time when Muslims sacrifice an animal, in remembrance of Forefather Abraham, to donate most of its meat to the needy.
It is a festival with many social aspects: the pilgrimage, the sacrifice of an animal, remembering and helping the needy, and the reunion of visiting relatives, friends, and neighbors.

During the holy holiday of “Bayram” from October 15th-18th. The Peace Islands Institute paid visits to local Food Pantries with some of our respected Legislators to donate fresh meat to celebrate “Bayram”, and to serve our NJ community.

The Peace Islands donated and distributed fresh meat to each of the following Food Pantries.

1) Interfaith Food Pantry, Morris Plains NJ; where we were accompanied
by Sen Anthony R Bucco, Asm Anthony M Bucco (District 25)

2) Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless, Elizabeth NJ; where we were accompanied
by Asw Annette Quijano, Asm Joseph Cryan (District 20)

3) Center for Food Action, Saddle Brook NJ; where we were accompanied
by Sen. Loretta Weinberg and Asm. Gordon M. Johnson (District 37)

4) St Peters Haven and Toni’s Kitchen, Clifton & Montclair; where we were accompanied by Speaker of the House Asw Sheila Y. Oliver, Asm Thomas P. Giblin (District 34)

Asm. Thomas P. Giblin (District 34) noted “ the extreme generosity of the Peace Islands Institute during the observance of Eid al Adha and noted it demonstrates great community spirit and wiliness to help families in need”

The Peace Islands Institute would like to thank all of the Individuals who helped make this distribution possible.

The Peace Islands Institute (PII) aspires to bring together different viewpoints and voices with the spirit of mutual respect and acceptance in order to develop original and alternative perspectives on vital issues that our society is facing, generate solutions to these issues, support successful practices, and as such promote education, friendship, and harmony, hence be an island of peace for all peoples in the society with different ethnical, cultural and religious backgrounds.

PII also hopes to advance diversity, pluralism and multiculturalism in the society and lead the way for a transcultural generation in the future.

We are proud to continue serving our community using every single opportunity.
