On Sunday, March 4, at 2 p.m., Stanley Congregational Church of Chatham, the Peace Islands Institute (formerly the Interfaith Dialogue Center) and Adath Shalom Synagogue will be co-sponsoring an interfaith ecologically-themed free event that is open to the public.

The Synagogue which is located at 841 Mountain Way, Morris Plains will host this event. A speaker from the New Jersey Highlands Coalition will show a 30 minute New Jersey News documentary, “The Highlands Rediscovered”, followed by a discussion of the issues currently facing this nearly 860,000 acre area of our state. Advanced reservations are not required. For more information visit stanleychurch.org or call 973-635-7723.

Nancy Presnell (of Florham Park), Chair of the Stanley Goes Green Committee noted that the Highlands encompasses one-fifth of the NJ land mass and provides a clean water supply to more than half (64%) of the state’s population.

It also supplies water to a large segment of our food and beverage, pharmaceutical and manufacturing industries.

Presnell stated, “This is an important topic for residents of New Jersey concerned about clean water supply and one about which we should be educating ourselves in order to make informed decisions which will affect future generations.” Benjamin Franklin aptly stated, “When the well is dry, we know the worth of water.”

The public is also invited to attend any Sunday Worship Service or church program at Stanley Congregational Church, United Church of Christ. The church is located at 94 Fairmount Avenue in Chatham.

Worship service begins at 10 a.m. each Sunday. Stanley Congregational Church is an “open and affirming” church. The congregation offers a warm welcome to persons of every race, marital circumstance, sexual orientation, and theological tradition. The Sanctuary is handicap accessible. Church School classes are available during the school year for children three years old through eighth grade. Childcare is available for infants and toddlers. Young people in ninth, tenth, eleventh and twelfth grade are encouraged to serve as ushers in worship, assistants in the classroom, and assistants in childcare. Children attend worship with their families and then leave for classes after the extending the peace of Christ in the service. A coffee hour follows the worship service.
