October 24th, Peace Islands Institute hosted Asw Maride Caride (District 36) in a PII luncheon themed “Hispanic Heritage Month”. This was our first program held in our new location in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ.
Asw Caride, started off by speaking about her Hispanic culture which is a society of many. Her parents are from Cuba while she was born in the U.S. She said “what brings us together is our roots” they are family oriented. She said, “ Hispanics are now a minority but soon will be a majority”.
Asw Caride is the 1st Latina in District 36, she serves as a role model to people who come after her. She mentioned “Her success stems and goes back my parents”. She spoke about how at home she speaks Spanish and teaches her kids their culture so they’ll know and never forget their roots.
She ended by speaking about the importance of educating our kids “ Education opens the road to the future of our kids.
